What are Questionnaires ?
These are simply a list of questions, they may be online, handed or posted to the respondent, they are close ended, often with pre-coded answers.
What are 2 Practical advantages of questionnaires?
Quick and cheap, meaning they can gather large amounts of data , spread geographically.
2) Easy to quantify as they are precoded answers
What is an ethical advantage of questionnaires?
Respondents don’t have to answer.
What is an Ethical disadvantage of questionnaires?
Leave harm on respondents as it can trigger sensitive topics.
What is a Reliable advantage of Questionnaires?
Easily replicates, as it has a set list of questions, with restricted choice, so easily see cause and effect.
What is a reliable disadvantage of Questionnaires?
Might need to give incentives to people to fill in e.g. £5
What is a Validity advantage of Questionnaires?
Good way of maintaing detachment and no bias caused by presence of researcher.
What are 2 validity disadvantages of questionnaires?
Lying, forgetting and right answerism (people lie if it is sensitive)

What is a Representative strength of questionnaires?
Can collect large numbers of people, meaning more representative.
What is a Representative disadvantage of people of questionnaires?
A low response rate distorts the representative of the sample.

Positivists as they deliver reliable data, we which can be replicated.

Shipman (1997) Questionnaires impose a straight jacket and distorts respondents meaning (confusing them)
