What is “cultural imperialism”? Why is it considered a threat?
It is the spreading of an empire through cultural means. It is considered a threat because it can
lessen the importance of traditional cultures and identities.
How is popular culture spread in our world today?
through the media (music, television, literature and fashion).
Why are people migrating (3 reasons)?
- They are seeking the best standard of living.
- They want to join their relatives.
- They are refugees looking for safe new places.
What are two ways assimilation can occur?
It can be forced or it can be voluntary.
What challenges for Francophones are presented based on the graph shown on page 77?
There is little French spoken in Western Canada and Atlantic Canada. It would be difficult to
maintain the French language when there are few people speaking it.
