Quick Guide to Apparatus Maintenance Flashcards
(39 cards)
Shoreline powers what?
When plugged into 120v, it powers an on-board battery charger. This maintains a correct state of charge to the vehicle’s batteries.
The radio/communication equipment draws how much power at all times?
There is 3 amp draw at all times.
What to look for when checking belts? (4)
Check for -fraying -cracking -wear -tension (Proper tension midway between belts will deflect the belt)
PSI required to release spring brake chambers on the rear drum brake?
60 PSI needed to release spring brake chambers
Low air buzzer activates between ___ and ___ PSI
Low air buzzer activates between 50 and 70 PSI
Fluid eyes are provided on the _______ tank and the ______ _______ reservoir.
Fluid eyes are provided on the coolant tank and power steering reservoir.
If fluid levels are past the full mark, what should be done?
Check the daily log to see if fluids have been added recently.
If not, check all fluid levels to see if they are low and consider the possibility of other fluids leaking together.
Approximate oil capacity?
41 quarts
When low, add one gallon 15w-40 oil for series 60 engines or 40wt for 6V92-8V92.
Approximate coolant capacity?
55 quarts
When low, add 50/50 blend of antifreeze from Fire Maintenance
DO NOT ADD WATER
Approximate transmission capacity?
40 quarts
Dexron ATF or TransSynd
Approximate power steering capacity
6 quarts
When low, add power steering fluid or ATF Dexron transmission fluid to full level.
Approximate primer oil capacity?
4 quarts
When low, add 40wt until full.
Hydraulic fluid for cab tilt?
1.3 gallons
When low add ATF Dexron to full level
Ladder rack hydraulic fluid capacity
1 pint
When low add ATF Dexron fluid to full level.
Emergency Air Brake
Depressing green emergency button will temporarily release the brakes so apparatus can be moved off the roadway.
Max speed 2 mph.
Engine series
Series 60
Inline 6 cylinder
4 stroke
470 and 515 hp
Possible check engine light reasons
Low coolant, high oil temp, high coolant temp, low oil pressure, sensor malfunction, or apparatus not plugged into shoreline for extended periods of time.
-If light activated call Fire Maintenance
Fuel tank capacity
65 gallons
Recommend filling fuel tank every day to reduce fuel condensation and to avoid running out of fuel at a fire scene.
Coolant gauge normal temp
180-220 degrees Fahrenheit
High temp possible causes are low coolant, overuse of retarder, belt shaft not driving fan properly, radiator plugged with dirt and debris
Engine oil PSI
Normal 15-80 PSI cold or high idle, 5-60 hot at idle
Volt gauge
Indicates battery condition and voltage output
Normal reading 13.5-14.8
Low reading possible causes
Loose or missing bolts, low state of battery charge, current load on system greater than alternator can produce, or defective alternator.
Call fire maintenance if alternator is not charging
Front air gauge
Normal 90-130 PSI
Rear air gauge
Normal air pressure is 90-130 PSI
Fuel pressure norms
5-90 PSI
