Quiz 1 Review Flashcards
What are the four tissue types?
•Epithelial
•Connective
•Muscle
•Nervous
In order from smallest to largest, list the body’s six levels of organization.
1.) Chemical
2.) Cell
3.) Tissue
4.) Organ
5.) Organ System
6.) Organism
Name the three major parts of the cell
• Plasma Membrane
• Cytoplasm
• Nucleus
Identify the four cell Junctions
•Desmosomes
•Hemidesmosomes
•Tight Junction
•Gap Junctions
Cell Junctions Function?
Desmosomes
Cell to Cell attachment
Cell Junctions Function?
Hemidesmosomes
Holds epithelial cells to a basement membrane
Cell Junctions Function?
Tight Junction
Prevents substances from passing in between two cells
Cell Junctions Function?
Gap Junctions
Cell to Cell communication
List all of the functions of connective tissue
•Encloses and separates other tissues
•Connects Tissues to one another
•Protects and Supports
•Storage
•Cushions and insulated
•Transports
Give examples of Connective Tissue for each function?
Function:
Connects tissues to one another
Ligaments and tendons
Give examples of Connective Tissue for each function?
Function:
Protects and supports
Bone
Give examples of Connective Tissue for each function?
Function:
Storage
Adipose tissue and bone
Give examples of Connective Tissue for each function?
Function:
Cushions and insulates
Adipose tissue
Give examples of Connective Tissue for each function?
Function:
Transports
Blood
What is the function of Cilia?
Transport/moves materials over the surface of the cell
What is the function of microvilli?
Increase surface area
Where can you find simple squamous epithelium?
Found in places where chemicals need to move quickly.
Examples: Lungs and Capillaries
Where can you find dense regular connective tissue?
Makes up TENDONS and LIGAMENTS.
How would you describe your acromion region?
Point of your shoulder.
Describe a frontal plane.
Plane that cuts the body into anterior and posterior portions.
What is the function of the Golgi apparatus?
Modifies and packages proteins produced RER and lipids produced by SER
How can we classify epithelial tissue?
• # of cell layers
• Shape of the cells at the surface
What do we look for in epithelial tissue?
Characteristics include:
• Cells closely packed together
• Cells are Uninucleate ( Single nucleus)
• Cells have a high mitotic rate
• Cells are separated from their underlying tissue by the basement membrane
• Tissue is Avascular
• Tissue is innervated
What is the function of the nucleus?
Control center of the cell, contains DNA
