Breath deep and slow, listen for one whole inhalation and exhalation, start to listen near the bottom to detect astelectasis, listen from side to side at equivalent sites, note if breath sounds are equal and bilateral, and know thoracic landmarks and what coincides with what lobe of the lung

What: high pitched noise as air moves through the airways
When: mostly on exhalation, not always
Where: smaller airways, periphery although they can resonate
Why: restricted or obstructed airways
Intervention: bronchodilators; coughing
