How does Gershwin synthesize concerto and Symphonic Styles in “Rhapsody in Blue”?

A
  1. Concerto Cycle - showcases a piano solo that is set against a full orchestra. The two alternate throughout in a dialogue-like fashion
  2. Symphonic Cycle - incorporates a structure similar to a movement of a symphony (opening, scherzo and trio, slow movement, finale) He reuses and develops the theme throughout, mimicking he structure of a symphony.
