irony that he has no children yet is giving a plan to where familys have to give up their own children to solve hunger, shows lack of emotinal integrity for them as poor people, but also shows the economic crisis and how rich people dont care about the poor

emotive language of innocent children dying, imagery of the ‘freezing to death’ adds intensity to the situation. innocent children should not be dying and ti shows the carelessness of the problem

asking to be treated well gives an emotional tone, the verb ‘ask’ presents a pleading tone, creates vulnerability and shows hat they dont want to fight

gives a semantic of peace and equality, the noun ‘mother’ presents that we are all children under the same spiritual mother or god and we should all care for each other

irony that the one ‘pretty’ thing left from the war has been destroyed and is now ‘violated’. imagery of a before and after presents the harsh reality of war.

a eerie atmosphere created as Edward begins to see excitement in the war, this creates a terrifying reality for Helen as well as the reader that showcases how war changes you, as well as showing Edwards horrible mentality and how he finds comfort in danger and distress as he has already been through that.

short sentences show short state of mind, and not a wide range of thoughts, recognising his unstable mind and how its no longer a fear of death but of craziness and changing as a person because of the war

the modifier ‘heavy’ portrays a physical feeling of being trapped, emotive towards how he believes the crown and his job was a burden to him, this shows his true feelings. also makes the public and his family see that he made the right choice as he cannot deal with being a king. hides his true motives of being with someone

putting his people before his family.
anaphora of ‘god’ presents a gesture of goodwill towards his former people, and ending of god bless the king gives a more personal touch as that indicates his patronage to his brother. these emotive takes hide his true feelings towards the royals

this can be seen as a stab at the current royals, as they choose royalty over their own happiness, Edwards guilt tripping is a silent gesture that he is happy to leave the crown for other reasons. this is also a manipulative tactic used by Edward as he will make his family feel bad for not letting him marry Wallis

this emotive sentence creates a image of love for his family, and how he loves them with ‘all’ his heart. ending with a heartfelt message and making the audience believe that he cares. repeating this throughout the speech implies that he’s trying to make himself believable
