1
Q

ionizing radiation long term effect

A

fibrosis >6 weeks

and vascular damage- surgeons won’t do surgery because wounds won’t do as well

Acute radiation syndromes

A
molecular death (>100,000 Rad)
CNS syndrome (>2000 RAD)

Q

Hematopoietic syndrome

A

50-500 RAD
nausea, vomiting diarrhea, resolves in 1-2 days
bone marrow transplant is tx
late effects- observe for development of post radiation cancers

Q

GI syndrome

A

death results in few days from circulatory collapse
no tx except for those with lower radiation doses that might benefit from bone marrow transplant
