Random Shit Flashcards
(44 cards)
What is bioleaching??
Using bacteria to show a solution containing copper ions from waste copper.
What is phytomining?
Using plants to absorb copper ions from low-grade ores plant are then burned and copper is extracted from ash.
What do metals combine to form?
A giant metallic lattice of positive metal ions. They conduct electricity as they are free to carry a charge .
How to calculate moles?
Mass / RFM
What colour precipitate is chloride ions
White
What colour is bromide ions?
Cream
What colour is iodide ions?
Yellow
Test for oxygen? Result?
Place a glowing splint in the gas , result is it relights
Test for hydrogen and result?
Place a burning splint in the gas. Result is a squeaky pop sound
Test for carbon dioxide? Result?
Bubble had through limewater, result is cloudy
Test for chlorine ?? Result?
Insert damp blue litmus paper and result is it should bleach (white)
In a flame spectrum , if the light is more intense what does it show?
The higher the concentration of the ions
Equation for percentage yield?
Actual yield x 100
—
Equation for atom economy?
RFM of useful product
—
Convert cm^3 into dm ^3
/1000
Ionic bonding is the bonding between what?
A non metal and a metal
Why do ionic bonds have high melting and boiling points?
The bonds are so strong it takes a lot of energy to break the electrostatic fusion.
What is metallic bonding between?
A metal and a metal
What does metallic bonding form?
A delocalised sea of electrons, holding the positive ions together.
Why can metals be shaped?
The layers can easily slide over eachother .
What bonds in covalent bonding
Non metal and non metal
Why does graphite conduct electricity but diamond doesn’t?
Graphite has delocalised everyone in the layers whereas in diamond it has no charges particles.
What is a hydrocarbon?
Compounds that only contain hydrogen and carbon.
How is crude oil formed?
When animals and plants decompose and are decompressed at high temperatures and pressure under layers of rock.
