Rates if Reaction Flashcards
(12 cards)
Reaction rate
How quickly a reaction takes place
Collision Theory
A theory that states that for a chemical reaction to occur the reacting particles must collide with one another
Reactant
A substance that reacts together with another substance to form products during a chemical reaction
Product
A substance formed in a chemical reaction
Particles
Any basic unit of matter and energy
Temperature
How hot or cold is, a measure of the average speed of the particles
Concentration
Amount of liquid in a defined space (eg: how much water in a glass)
Surface Area
Measure the space needed to cover the outside of a three-dimensional shape
Catalyst
A substance that changes the rate of a chemical reaction without being changed by the reaction itself
Pressure
The effect of a force over an area
Activation Energy
The minimum amount of energy needed for a chemical reaction
Gradient
Gradient = steepness, On a graph a gradient is defined as being the change in the ‘y’ value divided by the change in the ‘x’ value.
