Rates of Reaction Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is a rate of reaction?
A
The rate of reaction is a measure of how quickly a reactant is used up, or a product is formed
2
Q
What is the collision theory?
A
- Reactant particles must collide with each other
- The particles much have enough energy for them to react
3
Q
What happens if the temperature of a reaction is increases?
A
- Reactant particles move more quickly
- The energy of the particles increases
- The frequency of successful collisions between reactant particles increases
- Therefore the rate of reaction increases
4
Q
What is the reaction between thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid like?
A
- Generates sulphur dioxide gas
- An insoluble precipitate of sulphur is formed
5
Q
How to measure the rate of reaction?
A
Either
RoR = Quantity of products form / Time taken
or
Ror = Quantity of reactions used / Time taken
