Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
(8 cards)
What’s the experiment about?
Testing the rate of reaction of a solution, to see if the drawn cross on the paper under the flask could still be seen under a matter of time, before the solution becomes a thick colour resulting in not being able to see the cross on the paper.
Step 1:
Mix 50cm cubed sodium thysulfate with 10 of hydrochloric acid
Step 2:
Starts off with the most concentrated thysulfate, which is around 40 grams per decimetre, then measure 50 cm cubed of it cubed
Step 3:
Then pour that solution up to 50 cm cubed in the measuring cylinder, then pour that measured amount into the beaker
Step 4:
Measure 10cm cubed of the acid
Step 5:
Then when the acid and the solution are mixed start the timer.
Step 6:
When the cross is no longer visible, stop the timer and note down how long it took for that concentration to turn into a solid block colour
Step 8:
Reaction time is longer so that means that the rate is smaller, now repeat this
