What was great schism
The Great Schism was the beginning of the seperation of the church- the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. The arguement was about the fact that the Catholic church believed that the authority of the Pope should not be questioned as he is a successor of St Peter however the Orthodox church believed that the Pope should not have full authority to determine Christian beliefs. The arguement was also about the parts of the Holy Trinity. Michael Cerularius, head of the Orthodox Church in Constantinople, accused the Roman Catholic Church of holding false beliefs. There could be no more serious charge. Pope Leo X denied that his Church was in error and condemned the Orthodox Church in return. The Pope then died. In the same year Cardinal Humbert of France excommunicated the entire Orthodox Church! Constantinople then claimed the pope had no authority over theorthodox church and claimed total indipendence from the Roman Catholic Church.
Who was st alban
St Alban was a soldier in the Roman Army, who didn’t know about Christianity and hid a catholic priest in his house. The priest told Alban about God and Alban now understood his religion and became Christian. When Roman soldiers came to arrest the priest, he told the, he was the priest and was put to death after saying he loves and worships Jesus. When people say Alban’s faith and sacrifice, many converted to Christianity and the place where he was killed became a shrine.

Process of electing new pope
After the unfortunate death or resigning of the Pope a week after the 9 days of mourning. To start this election a group of cardinals meet in the vatican which are known as a conclave. They meet and pray in the sistine chapel and then are locked in the chapel until a new pope is chosen. They start the first round of votes and if the cardinal gets 2/3 plus one votes he is then chosen as pope but if this doesnt happen they are burned with a black smoke which means the election process is still on going. If a
• pope isnt chosen in 2 weeks all they need is 1/2 plus one votes and once they have finally voted for the priest the paper is burned without chemicals and the people cheer in hapiness. The pope is then brought to the balcony of the sistine chapel and announced to the whole world with “habemus papam” “we have a pope”.
What are papal encyclicals
Papal encyclicals are letters written by the Pope, addressing important issues and providing guidance on matters of faith and morals. While not infallible, they are considered authoritative teachings and demand the religious submission of the intellect and will from the faithful. Encyclicals shed light on global issues from a moral and theological perspective, helping everyone better understand how to apply the teachings of Sacred Scripture and Tradition to contemporary issues. They have inspired revolutions, changed cultures, and addressed a wide range of topics, often being ahead of their time. In summary, papal encyclicals are significant documents that have a profound impact on both the Church and the world.
