what is re-urbanisation
movement of people back into urban areas
what are push factors of re-urbanisation
-lack of jobs
-fewer leisure/entertainment facilities
-counter-urbanisation can cause high house prices in rural areas
what are pull factors of re-urbanisation
-most universities based in urban areas, so young people move for education
-young people want to live close to work in areas with good entertainment
-encourages businesses to invest
what are the economic consequences of re- urbanisation
-when people move in city centres new shops/services open- boosts economy of city
-tourism increase brings money to city for improving area
-jobs not accessible to original residents that are unskilled
what are the social consequences of re- urbanisation
-jobs created- less employment
-wealthier people send children to private schools away from city centre
-original residents- low income so cant afford housing so move to cheaper areas
what are the environmental consequences of re- urbanisation
-re-developing derelict brownfield sites in cities protects wildlife habitats
-but some derelict for a long time so can destroy urban wildlife habitats
