Q

If an element is more reactive the reaction is more what ?give an example

A

Violent
When potassium reacts with acid it reacts explosively possibly catching fire and whizzing around producing hydrogen gas

6
Q

The reactions get gradually what as you go down the series ? Give some examples

A

Less violent
Like magnesium with acid would bubble abit but disappear
Then fewer bubbles
And copper wouldn’t react at all

Q

How do we ensure the tests are fair ?

A

Same mass and surface area for each one
And same type and concentration of acid

Q

What are the products when metals react with water ? Give one balanced example and which metals can do this.

A

Metal hydroxides and hydrogen gas
2Li+2H2O—2LiOH+H2
Only the most reactive metals can do this metals like zinc iron and copper won’t react at all

Q

What is a displacement reaction ? Give the ‘big idea’

A

More reactive metals can displace less reactive ones

11
Q

Give an example of a DISPLACEMENT reaction.

A

Mg+ FeSO4 —-MgSO4+Fe
Magnesium is MORE reactive so it DISPLACES iron
If it was something like copper nothing would happen because it’s LESS reactive than iron

Monkeys - magnesium
And- aluminum
Zebras - zinc
In- iron
Large - lead
Cages - copper
Securely- silver
guarded - gold
