Global
To ID: main idea, purpose, organization
task: think big picture, TSPM, consult roadmap
Logic

Detail
To ID: according to the author/passage, the passage states, the author mentions, categorical language
task: research relevant text
Contrast
difference of opinion or shift in scopeexs: but, however, nonetheless, despite, yet, although, while, even so, whereas, on the other hand, instead, coversely
Inference
To ID: the author implies, the passage suggests, likely to agree, based on, loose language
task: read between the lines, perhaps combine statements, identify what MUST follow from the passage
Continuation
- similar opinions or further support*exs: furthermore, moreover, in addition, also, likewise, as well, similarly
Logic Function
To ID: the author…primarily in order to, primary purpose of the __ paragraph, best describes the function of
task: look at the context of the detail or paragraph and ask WHY author put it in there
Emphasis/Opinion

Reading Comp Question Strategies
Look for clues in question stems – proper nouns and names, line references, direct quotations, paragraph references, content clues
Sequence/Timing

Conclusion
