In society, values change over time. If the law is to remain relevant, it must align with the values of the majority of people, therefore it must change to reflect these values to ultimately remain effective.

-People will be reluctant to obey laws that do not reflect their basic beliefs

E.g- Tobacco amendment act 2016 implemented as a result of increased awareness regarding impacts of smoking

Technology is constantly improving. As new technology is developed, community must be certain of how their laws apply in new situations, meaning law must change to provide clarity and ultimately remain effective.

Our laws must be altered and updated as tech improves. Some laws will control and regulate new inventions and others will reduce likelihood of people being harmed.

Law reform must continually occur to make sure individuals and different groups within our community are protected and feel safe. This ensures that laws continue to serve their purpose, to ensure social cohesion.
One of the major roles of the law is to protect individuals from harm.
