receptors Flashcards
(3 cards)
waht do pacinian corpuscles do
-are receptors
-that respond to changes in mechanical pressure
-they convert energy into an impulse
-detects pressure and converts into a generator potential which creates a nerve impulse
waht happens in its resting state
-stretch mediated sodium ion channels in the membrane of receptors are closed and dont allow sodium ions into the receptor
-recepotr has a resting potential
what happens when pressure is applied to the receptor
-the receptor changes shape and the membrane of the receptor becomes stretched
-this stretching causes deformation of the stretch mediated sodium ion channels and sodium ions diffuse in producing a generator potential
-if the generator potential is above threshold level , an action potential is produced and nerve impulses are transmitted along the neurone .
