recombinant DNA technology Flashcards
define biotechnology
any technology based on biology
give examples of briotechnology

how are dna fragments produced
recombination dna technology
define recombinant DNA technology
recombining DNA from different organisms or from a single organism -‘transgenic’
what are the two types of ways proteind can be made using recombinat dna technology
reverse transcriptase
restriction endonuclease
what is the first stage of using reverse transcriptase
isscolating cells that readily produce protien you want to copy
in reverse transcriptase what is the protien that is iscolated and why
a copy that contains losts of MRNA so that MRNA can be isolated
after mrna is iscolated and extracted what happens
mrna acts as a template for CDNA to be formed using reverse transcriptase
what is cDNA
complementory dna
after cDNA is formed what happens
the bonds between mrna and cdna are hydrolised leaving a single strand of dna
why is a single strand of dna left after it has been hydrolised
bonds between mrna and cdna are hyrolised leaving cdna alone but this is no longer complementory dna and so just dna
what happens to this now single dna strand
incubated with rna polymerase to form a second strand of dna
what is the result of reverse transcriptase
double stranded dna
what is anouther way dna fragments can be created
restriction endonuclease
what is the ensyme involved in restriction endonuclease
