define referendums
A
a vote where the electorate ware asked to directly decided on a question of political importance

are referendums binding in parliament?
A
no they are non binding in parliament , only considered advisory but would be controversial to ignore the result

why are referendums different to elections?
A
they cover one issue rather than multiple issues and demand a yes/no answer rather than choosing between candidates
