Reflection And Refraction Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
What is the 4 characteristics of light? Explain them.
A
- Transmission is the process where the light through a substance, allowing it to continue traveling on the other side
- Reflection is the process of light bouncing back as it hits a surface
- Refraction is the bending of light as it enters a different medium as it transmits
- Absorption is the light taken in by a material and converted into another energy
2
Q
Law of reflection
A
Incidence angle = refracted angle
3
Q
What is a normal? and what is it for?
A
An imaginary line 90* from the boundary. It is used in reflection and refraction as a guideline
4
Q
What is specular reflection?
A
A reflection that produce clear images because it’s boundary is flat
5
Q
What is diffused or scattered reflection?
A
A reflection that doesn’t produce clear image because the boundary is bumpy so the normals are all different.
6
Q
State the refraction direction when it travels from less dense to denser material
A
It bends towards the normal line
7
Q
What is critical angle?
A
When the refracted angle is 90*, the incidence angle is a critical angle
