Reflexes Flashcards
(11 cards)
1
Q
reflex arcs
A
signalling pathways that bypass the brain and only involve the transfer of information via spinal nerves
2
Q
mono-synpatic reflex arcs
A
sensory neuron synpasing motor neuron using no interneuron
3
Q
poly-synaptic reflex arcs
A
use of interneurons
4
Q
knee jerk reflex
A
- mono-synpatic stretch reflex
- sensory receptor = stretch spindle
- motor neuron induces contraction of quadricep
- same sensory neuron joins motor neuron for the relaxation of the flexor
5
Q
withdrawl reflex
A
- polysynaptic reflex
- sensory neuron = pain receptor (usually)
- motor neuron induces muscle contraction to remove pain stimulus
- sensory neuron synpases another interneuron to signal relaxation in flexor (crossed extensor reflex)
6
Q
control reflex
A
closed loop reflexes where reflex acts on stimulus
7
Q
protective reflex
A
open loop reflex where reflex does not act on stimulus
8
Q
somatic efferent
A
single motor neuron
9
Q
autonomic efferent system
A
2 neuron chain (interneuron use)
10
Q
excitatory interneuron
A
contraction
11
Q
inhibitory interneuron
A
relaxation
