What is a reflex?
Fast and automatic response to stimuli
What are the 2 types of reflexes?
Innate and Learned
What is an innate reflex?
A reflex you are born with, such as blinking or breathing
What is a learned response?
A reflex you have learned over time, such as catching a ball
What is the reflex arc?
Set sequence of events which occur in any reflex
Explain what the reflex arc is?
Receptor detects stimuli (pain), travels along sensory neuron, passes over synapse (gap), travels along connector neuron, motor neuron carries impulse towards an effector, effector responds by contracting.
What is a synapse also called and what is it?
A synapse is a neuromuscular junction or a gap between two neurons.
What is stimuli?
Feeling; pressure on the skin, pain.
Does the information get sent straight to the brain?
No, once the impulse has passed the motor neuron, then is it sent to the brain.
