Reflex tested with child in a semi-reclining or supine position. Stimulated by dropping head backward from a semi-sitting position or a loud noise near the head. Response elicits extension or flexion and abduction of arms and spreading fingers. Age range: Birth-5 mo.

. Reflex tested with child supine or sitting with arms and legs extended. Stimulated by passively or actively turning the head 90 degrees to one side. Response elicits increase extensor tone of limbs on the face side and flexor tone of limbs on the skull side. Age range: Birth-4 yo 6 mo.

  1. Reflex tested with child sitting or quadruped. 1. Flexing the child’s head and bringing the chin towards the chest which causes flexion of the UE and extension of the LE. 2. Extending the child’s head causes UE extension and LE flexion. Age range Birth- 4 to 6 mo.
