Secret ballot act
1872, voters could vote in secret which reduced corruption and bribery
Corrupt and illegal practices act
1883, Gladstone. Candidates could not spend more than £1000 per 5000 voters and corruption could be punished by 2 years in prison

- No longer had to pay tithe however, it was too little too late and some argued it undermined empire
Irish land act
- Could only be evicted if you failed to pay rent. However, they could just raise rent. You also got compensation on things like sheds that you built when there
Forster’s education act
- Established school boards to ensure sufficient education. Was not compulsory so many children would just work instead.
Cower-temple clause
Schools could only teach general Christian principles, not specific denominations
Abolition of the purchase commissions
Could no longer buy ranks in forces. More opportunity to the working class
Criminal law amendment act
- Outlawed picketing which made strike action ineffective. Angered trade unions especially new model unions
Licensing act
- Prevented adulteration of beer and reduced opening hours to 12am. Working class saw it as an attack on personal freedoms.
