What are the different types of employment sectors?
Primary sector (fishing, farming and mining)

What is regeneration?
Long term upgrading of existing places and designed to tackle inequalities.
What is gentrification?
The process where wealthy individuals move into poorer areas.
What is studentification?
The social and environmental changes caused by very large numbers of students living in particular areas of a town or city.
What are administrative functions?
Organisation of services like waste disposal, collection of local taxes.
What is commercial and retail?
The main shopping destination for a region.
What is ethnic composition?
Migrants arriving from the Caribbean, West Africa and India after WW2 often clustered together in major cities.

How has the UKs employment structure changed over time?
Since 1945 the employment structure of the UK has changed dramatically.
Primary employment has decreased from 9% of the population down to 3%.
Secondary has also fallen from 43% to 27%.
Tertiary employment has increased from 48% to 70%.
What is the Gig Economy?
Promoting short term, flexible work arrangements instead of permanent positions.

Demographic Transition Model.
This is a model used to illustrate population changes over time.
What is the difference between regeneration and gentrification?
Regeneration often focuses on making areas in decline into more attractive places to live. Gentrification is often a term used to reference new people moving into an area

Pre-industrial
Urbanizing and industrializing, Mature industrial
Post-industrial
What does rural mean?
Open landscapes
Low population density

What does urban mean?
Built up areas
Higher population density

What is rebranding?
Changing the image of a place to attract new investment, residents or visitors.

Describes the changes in employment sectors as a country develops.
What are brownfield sites?
Previously developed land that is not currently in use but could be contaminated.
What are greenfield sites?
Undeveloped land.
