Regulation of Genome Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is signal transduction?
The mechanism through which a cell functions bye having transcription factors bind DNA and activate genes that will express effectors to carry out that function.
Where in the process of expression of a gene can it be controlled?
- Transcription
- RNA processing
- RNA transport
- Translation
- mRNa degradation
- Protein activity
What is the enhancer region?
The a cis acting region far upstream of transcription site where activator transcription factors bind to increase the expression of a gene.
What are the activator proteins?
These are proteins that bind both the enhancer and RNA Polymerase II to form a DNA loop. Binding will recruit general transcription factors to form the transcription initiation complex.
What are the silencer regions?
These are cis acting regions where repressor TFs will be recruited to.
