Q

What is ASA?

A

ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) make sure that advertisements across UK media stick to the advertising rules.

If any advertisement breaks a rule; inciting anyone or allegedly saying their ad is legal, then their advertisement can be taken down. This is crucial since people may see the advertisement at first then see that it got put down, creating a negative image on the company that advertised the products. If consumers don’t see their advertisements, not many people will acknowledge them and therefore their products are lead to failure.

Q

What is BBFC?

A

BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) gives ratings to films and TV shows. They find out what the films contain, like language, violence or any sexual activity.

If there are elements of a film that break a certain UK law, then it will be cut from the film. If there are larger sections and repeated sections where it breaks UK law/s, then the film will not get any rating and therefore rejected. This is vital since the production of the film will have to be redone and so reapplying the film to get a new rating.

Q

What is PEGI?

A

PEGI (Pan-European Game Information) is a European video game content rating system established to help European consumers make informed decisions when buying video games or apps through the use of age recommendations.

Retailers that sell video games to children are now liable for imprisonment or a fine. New logos were made and used in order to tell the consumers what they can expect from games. Specific age ratings now limit the amount of people that can play games

Additionally, if retailers get imprisoned, the shop gets closed, games aren’t sold and therefore less access to the new products.

Pan-European = All of Europe
