Adoption
Adoption is a statutory legal action in which the previous parent-child relationship is terminated, and a new parent-child relationship is established.
Legal Effects of Adoption
The adoptive parents have all the rights and responsibilities that the biological parents would possess (e.g., support, custody, visitation, and inheritance), and the adopted child has all the rights and responsibilities that a biological child would possess (e.g., intestate rights in the adoptive parents’ estate).
