Relationship Formation Flashcards
(7 cards)
How is relationship behaviour explained by evolution
It is based on choosing partners with traits that enhance reproductive success
What kind of women are males typically attracted to, according to evolutionary theory?
Women who show signs of youth, health, and fertility (e.g., smooth skin, shiny hair, red lips, hourglass figure).
What kind of men are females typically attracted to, according to evolutionary theory?
Men who show signs of fertility, health, and the ability to provide resources (e.g., shelter, food, intelligence, strength, status).
Why are females choosier in mate selection?
Because they invest more in reproduction (pregnancy, breastfeeding) and have fewer reproductive opportunities.
What does Parental Investment Theory explain?
It explains why males and females differ in relationship strategies and reproductive behaviours.
Why do females invest more in offspring?
Because of pregnancy risks, limited reproductive opportunities, and postnatal care like breastfeeding.
Why do males invest less than females?
Back: They can father many offspring with little biological cost, but still invest somewhat to ensure survival of their children
