Basic Considerations
RELIEF OF TPS IN CONTACT

A

a) WARNOs should be issued sufficiently in advance to give adequate time for planning and recce by the subordinate cdrs.
b) Plans must be detailed, simple and well coordinated between all echelons of the relieving and relieved unit.
c) Reliefs should normally be planned for Ni or during pds of reduced visibility.
d) Normal activities must continue throughout.

Sequence of Relief

A
  1. Advance party moves to the def posn, generally in the Bn RV.
  2. Bde HQ walks to the Bn RV and guides from advance party are allotted in RV.
  3. Adv party obtains all required info from relived bn, relived bn goes into stand too practice.
  4. Reliving unit comes to RV.
  5. Signal officer with line man team goes ahead in def locations and check all line comns
  6. Sniper and OP team take posn with the help of guides
  7. All PLs and SECs get dispatched to their respective loc.
  8. Handing and taking over takes place
  9. SY teams generally patrols are sent
  10. SP arms also subsequently take poss
  11. Sec, PL, and Coy reports to their higher Cdrs
  12. Relived Bn exits out from Sec, Pls, Coy and Sp arms onwards.
  13. Command gets changed.

Sy during RELIEF OF TPS IN CONTACT

A
  1. Normal activity of ptls, comn traffic, harassing fire and movement must be coordinated between both units.
  2. Advance party of the incoming unit should move into the defs in small gps.
  3. Use of radio nets of the outgoing unit should continue till the relief has been completed. For this, the unit being relieved may have to leave its operators for some time.
