Religion as a conservative force
- functions to conserve things as they are maintaining status quo
- Allows individuals more freedom in personal + sexual matters
Religions beliefs
most have trad conservative beilefs - upholding family values eg. family should be headed by the man + trad CofE marriage 1602 the bride vows ‘Love,honour and obey’ but groom ‘Love and honour’

God has predetermined souls to be saved ‘the elect’

Encourages people to go out and seek profit - contributing to society
