Believe that everyone is equal as there is no hierarchy of priests exercising authority

Wanted a religion that was more democratic and appeared to emphasise with them
Also the idea of baptism gave them a new sense of life

Seen as savages who didn’t believe in god however when joined baptism it became to enslave black people as there excuses no longer justified
