- fewer people believed in astrology so they stopped using astrology charts
- Improved knowledge of digestion meant stop using urine charts
- carried out more direct observations and examinations rather than having the patient explain

What were the changes in hospitals?
- hospital used more by sick people and less by travellers and pilgrims
- 1563 - dissolution of the monasteries
- some free charity hopsitals set up but not untill 1700’s did they reach pre-dissolution
-pest houses for specific contagious diseases - when hospitals re-appeared they were run by a phsicians who focused on healing the sick rather than religion
Why was there a lack of care
ideas were slow to be accepted
no direct use in improving treaments
- any discoveries didn’t improve the understanding of diseases

What was the big difference in how people approached it?
bigger reaction from local councils
who were ordered by the king to try and stop it from spreading

- streets were cleaned
– carts collected the dead and burried them in deep mass graves
