What does the term ‘Renaissance’ refer to?
Considered a ‘Rebirth’: a renewed interest in Greek & Roman literature and art.
What is a Patron?
Someone who supports another person through the use of money or influence.
What is Humanism?
The shift began in thought of the world and a life away from religion, toward human activities.
What is a Renaissance Man?
Interested in/able to do many things.
What are Indulgences?
Pardons for sins.
What is the Reformation?
A movement to change, or to ‘reform’ the Roman Catholic Church.
Who is considered a Protestant?
Any Christian that protested against the RCC.
What is a Constitutional Monarchy?
A government whose ruler is bound by the laws of the constitution.
What is the English Bill of Rights?
A law passed in 1689 that limited the power of the king or queen and gave more power to Parliament. It helped protect the rights of the people and made sure the monarch couldn’t make laws or raise taxes without approval. This law was an important step toward democracy.
Who was Lorenzo de Medici?
A rich and powerful man from Florence who supported artists and helped the Renaissance grow.
Who was Martin Luther?
A German monk who wanted to fix problems in the Catholic Church and wrote the 95 Theses, beginning the Protestant Reformation.
What did Johannes Gutenberg invent?
The printing press in 1450.
Who was Queen Elizabeth?
A strong and smart queen of England who helped her country become powerful during the 1500s.
Who was Henry VIII?
A king of England who broke away from the Catholic Church so he could get a divorce and started the Church of England.
was a Renaissance artist known for his sculptures like David and his paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
