Renal function Flashcards

Q

Summary of RF, differentiate between G+T

A

Kidney function - Maintain homeostasis via regulation of e-, excrete TW, hormones e.g aldosterone

2 sections G+T

GFR, rate of blood filtered through the glomeruli, depends on renal flow + BP, factors affecting: BF, obstruction, retain WP
Used to measure clearance tests which is used to measure creatinine in urine, conc used 2M GFR

EF are: Age, sex weight… RR 60/90ml/min
Elevation suggests kidney DF
Serum urea: elevated = dec GFR, GTI can elevate
Measure plasma b2 microglobulin: inc malig risk of infl disease

Tubular, found in nephron, filters blood and maintains homestasis
Disorders may be inherited or from toxin exposure,
Tests: urinalysis: Studies visual appearance, through DST and exam… can measure glucose, ketones and proteins pH… Normal Col - amber

Cloudy may suggest alkylation or dehydration

Dipstick identifies specific substances, acidic = UTI
Diabetic ketoacidosis could cause low pH, hematuria, proteinuria = kidney or heart failure
Glycosia maybe funconi syndrome

Q

3 causes of ARF

A

Involves dec in function of hours or days, 3 stages

Prerenal - dec in BF to kidney caused by hypotension or cardiac failure
Intrinsic – Damage to kidneys, caused by B2, septic shock or microvascular disease
Postrenal - Caused by renal obstruction = inc hydrostatic pressure
Identified through biochemical tests

Serum urea - >10:1 , urea plasma osmoalilty >1.5

Main cause: Dec BF, septic shock BL, medical overdose through aspirin or ibuprofen

Symptoms: Tiredness: nausea, vomiting, dec urine, muscle weakness
