required practical 3: change in rate reaction due to temperature Flashcards
1
Q
how is rate measured
A
1/time
2
Q
how is time measured
A
time taken for the cross under the reaction mixture to disappear
3
Q
method for this experiment
A
measure set volumes of HCl and sodium thiosulfate into boiling tubes, using measuring cylinders
use different temperatures, cold water bath/ hot water bath/ room temp
place flask over cross
add sodium thiosulfate then HCl and start the timer
mix reaction mixture
stop the clock when cross disappears
4
Q
arrhenius equation
A
lnk=lnA – E a/RT
5
Q
how is the graph plotted to find the activation energy
A
1/T = x axis
ln (1/T) = y axis
work out gradient = Ea/R
work out activation energy = gradient X R
