Q

Microscopy- Method

A
  1. Peel off epidermal layer of onion using a forceps
  2. Place this on the microscope slide and add a drop of iodine to stain the cells and place a cover slip on top and place on the microscope stage
3.Turn the microscope light on or position mirror so light reflects through the slide
  3. Use the lowest magnification lens and use the focus knob to focus, Increase the magnification and refocus if needed

Q

Osmosis- Method

A
  1. Cut equal size cylinders from potato and remove excess water from the surface and weigh it
  2. Place each test tube with different concentrations of sugar solution, and leave for set time. Water will move in or out the cells due to osmosis.
  3. Remove cylinders, dab off excess water, reweigh and calculate. %change in mass= Final mass- initial mass/ initial mass x 100
