research methods Flashcards
everything about it (7 cards)
what is the def of experimental designs
experiments are designed to establish a cause an effect by manipulating the IV and measuring its effect on the DV
types of experiments
lab experiment , field and natural experiment
what is a field experiment
an experiment conducted in a natural setting the experimenter still manipulates the iv but in real life setting
what is a lab experiment
an experiment conducted in a controlled environment that allows the experimenter to control the iv however they want to see the effect of this on the dv
what is a natural experiment
an experiment that is conducted in a natural setting where the iv is hard to manipulate
what are the strengths and weaknesses of a field experiment
strengths:
1-high ecological validity because the results are more likely to reflect real life
2-it is less likely that the experiment will be effected by hawthrone effect or demand of characteristics this increases the validity of the experiment.
