Sign Test
Subtract condition b from a
Count the number of +’s and -‘s
The smaller amount is S/the calculated value
The total is N
Find the appropriate level of significance for N for a 1 or 2 tailed test, and 0.05
This is the critical value
S must be <= critical value
Cultural bias
Ethnocentrism: see from your cultural perspective, believe this is the “correct” perspective
Cultural Relativism: behaviour can only be understood if culture is taken into consideration
Universality: theory can be applied to everyone
Confounding variables
Affects DV, isn’t the IV, changes systematically with the DV
E.g godden and baddeley context based memory (scuba diving) being wet is a confounding variable
