Research Methods And Own Research Flashcards
(8 cards)
1
Q
Define correlation data
A
- measure the relationship between two co variables
- measure the strength and direction of relationship.
- presents in scatter graph
2
Q
Pro of using correlation method
A
- enable a relationship to be shown that is not easily noticed
- no manipulation of IV = no researcher bias and straight forward
- reduce p.pants variables
- spearman Rho can be conducted
3
Q
Cons of correlational method
A
- cannot establish cause and effect
- lacks validity = variables need to be operationalised = some maybe hard to quantify e.g. mental health
4
Q
Why do we use Spearman Rho in correlation ?
A
- when uses ordinal data or interval data
- when testing association
- when design of study is correlation
= OV needs to be equal or larger than CV
5
Q
Aim of own practical
A
- to investigate the relationship between testosterone and aggression
- to see if there is a relationship between 2D 4D finger length ratio and their perceived aggression levels
6
Q
Procedure of practical
A
- 11 p.pants obtained from opportunity sample from the society
- all 11 p.pants completed a closed questionnaire on their perceived aggression out of 12 questions of total score of 72 using a 6 point likely scale
- p.pants score themselves out of 72
- trace around their dominant hand with a pencil on a paper, then use a ruler to draw a line at the tip of 2D and 4D fingers then slide the ruler down to stem and draw lines at stem of 2D 4D finger
- p.pants need to measure the length difference of from tip to stem of their 2D 4D finger
- then calculate ratio of 2D : 4D length in 2 d.p
7
Q
Findings of practical
A
Mean score of 2D 4D ratio = 1.03
Mean score of perceived agg = 26.9
Spearman Rho OV = 0.106 < CV 0.536 = not sig relation
8
Q
Conclusion of practical
A
OV is lower than CV, for one tailed hypothesis, with sig level of 0.05 of 11 p.pants, results are not significant so reject alternative and accept null hypothesis.
Suggests no relationship between 2D4 D ratio on fingers on a person’s perceived agg scores
