A

Education
-children whose mothers attended residential school are more likely to be suspended or expelled & ave worse school experiences on average that children whose mothers did not
-children are also more likely to love off reaver & less likely to speak an aboriginal language if their mothers attended a residential school

Impacts (health)

A

-physical health outcomes linked to residential schooling included pooper general & self-rated health, increased rates of chronic & infectious diseases
-effects on metal & emotional well-being included mental distress, depression, addictive behaviours & substance mis-use, stress, & suicidal behaviours

Impacts

A

-children who attended the schools experienced chronic under nutrition characterized by insufficient caloric intake, minimal protein & fat, & limited access to fresh produce, often over a period of 5-10 years

Impacts (inter generational trauma)

A

-decades after the last residential school closed, the trauma of survivors can continue to negatively affect their offspring
-“even though the next generation didn’t actually experience the trauma, they show many of the same behaviours, emotions, & mental wellness that one would see in someone who has experienced a trauma”

Impacts (child rearing)

A

-new & diff behaviours has to be learned by the children in middle childhood to cope & exist in a parent less environment where no feelings of love or care were demonstrated by the caretakers & the speaking of Cree & other INDG languages was forbidden
-values & skills taught by parents/elders, & essential for survival in INDG society, lost their importance in residential schools;
-INDG languages were not taught to subsequent generations;
-the separation of siblings by sex & age created strangers in families
-interruptions of attachment - impacts a ability to make connections & form bonds with others
