Resistance Flashcards
(16 cards)
What is resistance measured in:
Ohms
What happens when the resistance is high:
The current is low
What does a resistor do:
Makes it harder for the current to flow
What does a variable resistor do:
Can change the resistance in the circuit and therefore change the current in the circuit
How does a filament lamp affect resistance:
Heat up when used
Higher potential difference makes them hotter
Hotter = higher resistance
Higher resistance = lower current
What does a diode do:
Conduct electricity only in one direction
In resistor graphs:
The line is directly proportional
In a filament lamp graph:
Line is not proportional
In a diode graph:
Line is not proportional
What is resistance a measure of:
How hard it is for electricity to flow
What is an LDR:
A light dependent resistor
What is a thermistor:
A temperature dependant resistor
In a thermistor low temperature means:
High resistance = lower current
In a thermistor higher temperature means:
Low resistance = higher current
In an LDR low light means:
High resistance = lower current
In an LDR more light means:
Low resistance = higher current
