Resistors Flashcards

Q

Why do resistors get hot when an electric current passes through them

A

Energy transfer heats them
Electrons collide with ions, giving them energy, causing them to vibrate and heat up
This increases resistance causing a decrease in current or increase in voltage
This can cause components in the circuit to melt, meaning the circuit will stop working
e.g. Toasters
