1

Q

How does soil drainage affect initial compression?

A

Drained soil changes volume with no change in pore water pressure. For undrained the reverse is true

Q

What do values of the state parameter suggest about the soil?

A

Positive: loose pack soil, negative: dense pack

As state parameter decreases, peak strength increases and the soil becomes more dilative
