Legitimate Defense
Limited violence is morally acceptable in defending yourself or your nation from an attack
Capital Punishment
The death penalty for a crime or offence
Just War
War involves many evils, no matter the circumstances; for a war to be just : it must be declared by a lawful authority; there must be a just cause and right intention; and weapons must be used to in a way that protects innocent civilian lives
Comparative justice
The good achieved through war must far outweigh the resulting loss of life and disruption to society
Just Cause
Using war to correct a grave public evil
Legitimate authority
Duly constituted public authority may use deadly force or wage war
Right intention
Force may be used only in a truly just cause and solely for that purpose
Probability of success
Arms may not be used in a futile cause or in a case where disproportionate measures are required to achieve success
Proportionality
The overall destruction expected from the use of force must be outweighed by the good to be achieved. In particular the loss of civilian life must be avoided at all costs
Last resort
Force may be used only after all peaceful alternatives have been seriously tried and exhausted
Conscientious objection
Refusal to join the military or take part in a war, based on moral or religious grounds
Arms Race
A competition between nations to have the most powerful armaments
Peace
Not merely the absence of war and not limited to maintaining a balance of powers between adversaries. It is attainted when the goods of persons, free communication among all, respect for dignity of persons, and peoples and the assiduous practice of fraternity are safeguarded

A state of complete physical, mental, spiritual, and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
