Q

How are alveoli adapted for gas exchange?

A
  • they have a large surface area
  • they have a moist lining so the gases can dissolve into it easily
  • they have this walls which means the gases can diffuse into the bloodstream/alveoli quickly

Q

What is oxygen debt?

A

When there’s not enough oxygen for aerobic respiration your body starts to anaerobically respire. When anaerobic respiration happens lactic acidosis is produced and oxygen debt is the oxygen needed to break down the lactic acude, because lactic acid is toxic.
