RESPIRATORY DISORDERS Flashcards
(22 cards)
INFLUENZA
PATHO:
highly contagious upper respiratory infection/virus
spread thru droplet transmission
S/S:
headache, fever, nasal congestion myalaise, myalgia, fatigue, sore throat
Dx:
nasal/throat swab or viral culture of secretions
Tx:
flu vaccine for prevention, analgestics/antipyretics for relief of symptoms & adequate fluid intake to prevent dehydration + rest. for sever flu, antiviral to prevent replication of virus
COMPLICATIONS:
primary influenza viral pneumonia (s/s: fever & dyspnea
ASSESS:
- vitals (tachycardia/pnea, hypoxia)
- neuro function (aggitation, lethargy, restlessness, anxiety)
- lung sounds (crackles, rhonci from exuadate in aveloi)
- secretions (white=pneumonia, puruleny/ green=secondary infections)
- pulses, skin temp/color from hyoxia
- lab values ( inc pH, dec co2, if worsened dec pH, inc co2)
ACTION:
- isolation precaution = prevent transmission
- position in semi/high fowlers = releif of nose drainage, inc lung expansion
- give oxygen as prescribed= inc o2 delivery
- administer meds
- provide adequate fluid/nutritional intake = recovery
obtain culture before administering antiviral meds because they can make any bacterial infection
TUBERCULOSIS
PNEUMONIA
RHINITIS
RHINOSINUSITIS
OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA
