What is a impermeable membrane
It’s the opposite of the permeable membrane a cell membrane is impermeable it does let materials come through
What is a permeable membrane and give an example?
Permeable means allowing passage so the cell membrane is permeable when it lets certain material come through.
What is a selectively permeable membrane
Is a membrane that only allows certain things to come through
What is the function of a cell membrane
The cell membrane is basically the gatekeeper around the cell
What is diffusion
The movement of particles from a place with higher concentration to lower concentration
Give an example of diffusion
When you first open a pop bottle the water particles all release into the air
What is concentration gradient
A difference in concentration of a substance between two areas
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane from an area of higher water concentration to an area of lower water concentration
How is the movement of particles in diffusion determined
In diffusion particles move down the concentration gradient from area of high concentration to less concentrated area movement is also affected by temperature diffusion occurs faster as the temperature increases
What is turgor pressure
Turgor pressure is the outward pressure that is it exerted on a plant cell wall by the cell contents when water is taken In by osmosis
Explain how osmosis creates turgor pressure
Osmosis allows water molecules to pass through a cell membrane and enter cell. In plant cells, when water enters the cell the cell wall begins to swell from the pressure. In a plant cell, this outward pressure is called turgor pressure
What is endocytosis
Endocytosis is the process by which a cell moves large amounts of material, or non-dissolved particles, into it cytoplasm from the outside environment
What is phagocytosis
Phagocytosis is a type of endocytosis in which a cell uses pseudopods to move non-dissolve solid particles into the cytoplasm from the outside environment
What is exocytosis
The process by which large amounts of material, or large non-dissolved particles, are moved from a cell cytoplasm the outside environment
Give two examples or situations where a cell might use phagocytosis
A cell might use Phagocytosis to take in nutrients from the environment or to remove Unwanted materials, such as harmful bacteria, from the surrounding environment
Give two examples of situations where they cell might use exocytosis
A cell might use exocytosis to send waste out of the cell to send out chemicals needed by the other parts of the body
