What is the California Incident?

A

In 1961, California prohibited DO licenses and instead offered weekend classes to convert DO degree to MD. The osteopathic licesnsing board was abolished and the osteopathic school was converted to an allopathic one.

It took until 1974 for DOs to regain their licenses and saw an opening of a new DO school in California.
